Why You Can’t Lose Weight
If you’re like me, you’ve struggled with your weight for most of your life. And if you’re not like me, then congratulations! Lol, but anyway, I have always been the type to struggle with my weight. There are very few points in my life when I can say I was actually thin, and if I was thin it was becasue I was on some type of unsustainable diet. The ones where you lose the weight, but only to gain it back again as soon as you go off them. It wasn’t until I had my first son that I finally found something that worked for me. Something that let me live my life, eat real food, lose the weight at a healthy pace, and tone up in the process. Shit, I even have abs now! It took me a long time to get to the point I am at in my life, but I can honestly say that I am happy with myself. And not like the “I’ve learned to love myself happy,” it’s the “I’m finally getting the body I always happy.” Don’t get me wrong, there is NOTHING wrong with loving the body you have, but I didn’t love the body I had and I didn’t want to love the body I had. I won’t get into that in this post, but before you criticize, read my former blog post, Why The Self Love Movement Isn’t For Me.
Before I got to this point in my life, I was just like you. I thought it was impossible for me to lose weight. I wondered why I couldn’t shed the pounds that made me so unhappy. I had tried it all, or at least I thought I had. And the women who come to me asking for help, and even just the women I talk to in general all say they can’t lose weight. But before I explain to you what you need to do to lose weight (and even give you the amazing opportunity to lose it the way that works like someone did for me), I first want to you to understand why what you’re doing isn’t working.
I Can’t Lose Weight, I’m Too Hungry On Diets
This is a huge misconception. HUGE. Like picture President Trump saying HUGE. So many women think they need to starve themselves to be thin, or that they can’t eat a lot of food and lose weight. I used to think that too. I used to try to starve myself, and I even tried to make myself throw up. Because I thought that was the only way to do it. But in actuality, if you starve your body, it will go into calorie saving mode and you won’t lose anything. You need to eat to keep your metabolism going in order to burn calories. Another big factor in not starving yourself to lose weight is what you eat. If you’re diet is going to consist of bagels and pizza. then yes, you are going to be hungry because you can only eat so much of that in a day.
Your Body Needs Nutrients
When you eat the right foods, as outlined in my programs, you are exposed to much different calories than those that are in bagels and pizza. These are nutrient rich calories that will fill you up and keep you feeling full much longer than empty calories. Eating the right foods also keeps your body running at optimal performance, and gives you the energy to keep up with your workouts (and your kids).
When I was on Weight Watchers, each food accounted for a different point value. At first I loved it becasue I was able to eat bagels and pizza and all the other foods that I loved. I lost weight at first, because I was dropping my caloric intake, but that weight loss plateaued and eventually those last 15-20 pounds would not come off. I got frustrated and quit. I know now that food should be used as fuel and you need to put the right fuel into your system, which I now doing using these tools.
I Can’t Lose Weight, I’m Over 40
Okay, so this one I hear all the time! A lot of women feel think becasue they are a certain age (usually over 40), that they can’t lose weight. SO yes, your metabolism does slow down as you get older, and you may not lose the weight as quickly as you did in your 20’s, but you can still lose the weight. Again, eating the right foods, combined with the right kind of exercise, makes a huge (there’s that word again) difference. Let me tell you a story. One summer when I was in my 20’s I walked over 6 miles everyday. Every morning, I would get my headphones and I would walk down my mile long street to a nature trail and walk for over 6 miles in the heat. I thought for sure I would lean out. I even ran it some days. But guess what? I didn’t lose a thing. At the time I had no clue why, but now I know that I wasn’t doing the right kind of exercise. I know now that you need to do a combination of strength training and cardio (my program use HIIT) to really see your body change. Sure the walking was good for me, and if you are brand new to exercise, it probably will do something for you, but if you really want to see results, you need to do the right exercises.
I promise you, I have worked with many women over 40 and they have seen results. Not only do the workout and nutrient programs that I use help them immensely but there’s also a nutrient dense, weight loss shake that I like to call my secret weapon. (If you want in on this action, you can do so here.)
I Can’t Lose Weight Because…
Lastly, the biggest reason you can’t lose weight (drum roll please…..) is becasue you don’t have the right mindset. Either it’s not that important to you or you don’t want it bad enough. Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom for you to want to make a change. Other times it’s illness. And sometimes it’s the fact that you want to keep up with your kids. But do you really want to let it get to that point? I suggest not letting it get that far becasue it’s not fun when you feel like you need to crawl your way from the bottom to the top. But regardless of what stage you are at, it can be done. And I can help. If you would like to talk or to get more information, email me at carissavfitness@aol.com.
