Life With A Toddler And A Newborn

I love that my two youngest boys are so close in age. Being only 2 years apart, they will spend a lot of their school years together, play sports together, and probably have some of the same interests at the same time. Also, with this being the second time around in 2 years, it’s so much easier. Having two is not much different from having one. Unless you take into consideration trying to go anywhere, especially first thing in the morning. Then changing, feeding, and loading into the car two tiny people at once kind of sucks and you really need to allot yourself enough time. But it’s definitely doable.
But I will say, that there are some downsides too to having kids this close in age. First off, let me say that chasing around a wild and crazy (and very adorable, thank god for his sake) terrible 2’s toddler isn’t exactly easy when you’re super pregnant. All I wanted to do was sit around and eat ice cream (is that too much to ask?), and instead I was putting all my energy into keeping a 2 year old from burning the house down. It probably would have been easier to be pregnant when he was a little younger and not as into EVERYTHING. Or maybe even if he would have been a little older (not that I wanted to wait that long).
Now that the baby is here, chasing a toddler still hasn’t gotten any easier because now I’m holding a newborn. Then there’s also the fact that he doesn’t understand to go gentle with the baby. He wants to poke and pat the top of his head (right on his soft spot of course) and bring him all his toys and pile them on top of him and possibly even try to involve him in a nerf gun battle. It is a full time job to protect the baby from the Joey Monster.
So if you’re planning on having a second (or third or fourth) child, you may want to rethink having one while you have a very active 2 year old. Unless you’re adventurous like us. Then I say go for it. Just make sure you have good insurance.
